Being in the field of business and technology since the Second World War, Bowers & Wilkins is definitely a company to reckon with when it comes to anything that is related to audio output. They have dominated the audio industry from the biggest loudspeakers to the most portable headphones. And now, they have created another gadget that will definitely boost their place to the top—the B&W P5. The mixture of stainless steel and leather on this device already gives a very luxurious feel on the head phones.  Moreover, the materials used in this device do not only contribute to the design of the P5 but were also picked because of the way they affect the sound quality of the headphones.

Hardware and Specifications

B&W classifies this device as a “mobile supra aural headphone with noise isolation”. Its remote control is also IPhone compatible so there should be a lot of interest from people who use this kind of phone. The dynamic Mylar diaphragm, which is made of high precision resistance material, has a driver-type configuration and is complimented with neodymium magnets. The headphone’s impedance rating is at 26 ohms with a maximum input power of 50 mW. Main input is a 3.5 mm stereo mini jack. A second input is also present on the headphone in the form of a 2.5 mm mini jack.

Pros and Cons

The P5 is an audio device that boasts a technology that allows listeners to experience natural sound, which according to B&W is as close to the original source. This has been dubbed as the “True Sound”. This feature has been made possible by specially developed ultra linear neodymium magnets, which are highly-optimized by mylar diaphragms. The P5 also has several features that make them really easy to use and make them compatible with popular devices. The cable on this device is compatible with Apple devices. Its remote control and microphone support the IPod Nano 4th generation, Ipod Classic, IPod Touch 2nd generation, IPhone 3gs and newer devices. The B&W also ensures audio support for all devices that are compatible with 3.5 mm mini jacks.

This gadget is one of the best headphones that B&W created. There is a really nice balance from bass, mid and highs that the use of an equalizer adjustment is not necessary anymore. The bass is not overly boosted and is not annoying. The device also exhibits premium build because of the well-picked materials used. It looks stylish and has excellent no-nonsense design. However, it comes with an expensive price tag. And when being used, users will find themselves readjusting the device several times for an accurate fit. The cable, although replaceable, is thin and gives an impression of flimsiness.

Conclusion

The B&W P5 is an excellent companion for any audio device. With the careful design and aptly picked materials, the device looks absolutely stunning. The audio is top class and will make any listener’s experience very pleasant. There is already no need to carry around multiple headphones/earphones because of its compatibility to popular media players and other audio devices. However, it would’ve been nice if the jack nearer the headphones was 3.5 mm diameter to make other cables compatible with this device. It is quite expensive but the audio quality is also an experience and it is every penny well spent.
