Having kids changes you. Having twins really changes you. My kids are almost 5 years old now and it’s crazy how time flies. It seems like it was just yesterday that I could hold both of them in my arms. Now, I feel like I can barely carry one of them for any amount of time. However, I do love that they can walk on their own and give me awesome hugs, or as my son likes to do “knock-down hugs.” That’s where he starts from a ways back, runs to me, hugs me, and knocks me down to the ground.
The kids really haven’t had it easy. Last year, their mother and I divorced. They spend most of their time with her. So when I get them, I do my best to make it quality time. We’ve done some pretty cool things as a family and even had my parents involved. My daughter is extremely smart and my son is rather quite the goof.
As a dad, I do what I can to make sure they learn how to treat others. Sometimes I wonder if I’m too hard on them when I discipline them. But I know that I have to follow through with it otherwise they’ll get used to empty disciplining and that’s not good either.
So … yeah. This is my first blog on dadtography.com. I’ll be writing more about my adventures as a single dad of twins.
