The Cyborg RAT 7 is one of the most popular gaming mice (hardware) out there. This mouse is one of the latest creations of Mad Catz under the “Cyborg” line. The RAT 7 is designed to allow the average gamer to perform like a pro. Since this device was optimized for functionality, aesthetics was definitely thrown out the window when the mouse was given an edgy design and numerous knobs that can be seen externally. This gadget comes in grayish black with a matte finish. A white version also can be availed as well and is known as the Albino Edition.
The RAT 7 core is made up of a solid lightweight metal frame that ensures strong build quality and agility at the same time. The specification on this mouse is the same as the RAT 9 with the exception of the wired connection the RAT 7 has. The DPI (dots-per-inch) range of this mouse is from 25 to 6400 dpi. Acceleration rating is at 50 G with a dynamic polling rate ranging up to 1000 HZ. Tracking speed can reach ratings up to 6 meters per second. Once connected to the computer, this mouse never shuts down or goes off line.
The RAT 7 may not look as ergonomic compared to other units out there but this device is actually all about finding the perfect grip for each individual user. Mouse length is adjustable with a turn of a knob. The thumb panel can fly inward or outward and can be shifted forward and backwards to follow the shape of the user’s palm. The grips for the pinkie as well as the palm rests are also interchangeable. Users can choose from a matte, rubber, and a thicker rest. They can also change the weight of the device by removing or adding 6-gram weights embedded in the device. The device includes a total of 8 programmable buttons to optimize total game control.
Pros and Cons
Truly, this device is a thumbs-up for all gamers out there. The ability to be customized according to the user’s exact gaming preference, whether ergonomically or software-wise with the help of the buttons is nothing short of great. Also, it can definitely be set to fit your grip and your gaming style with all those adjustable and interchangeable parts. The mouse also comes with an excellent program to customize the buttons. On top of all of these, the mouse is a precision device that will definitely headshot your way to the top of gaming and computing experience.
The most distinguishable negative side of the RAT 7 is its design. Some people may even consider it hideous but then again, style can be very subjective. Personally, the RAT 7 looks like it just came out of a sci-fi movie which means that it looks really cool rather than ugly. However, the mouse’s numerous parts can become a problem if you don’t have a proper container to hold all of them as some of these parts are very small and detachable. Pricing can also be a concern since it is a bit more expensive than usual mice hardware but it is definitely worth it.
