Six Things I’m Doing for Myself this Summer (and I Don’t Feel One Bit Selfish) #AD
It's almost that time of year again - summertime! Summer means warmer temperatures, summer vacations and no school (for most). But as a dad, summer has lost a bit of its luster.
The novelty of this time has worn off a bit, because work doesn't pause for much more than a week and summer chores tend to stack up.
This summer, I'm vowing to do a few things for myself (and for my wife), and I don't feel one bit selfish about it!
This Summer, I'm Planning a Guy's Trip.
This will be the summer I do it. My buddy John and I have been talking about it since our road trip to the Indy 500. We're going to plan another guy's trip and this time, we're thinking about going on a relaxing cruise.
John and I are both working on big projects. A cruise would be a perfect way for us to decompress for a few days and take our minds off our daily stresses. We can also use some of that deck time to focus on our writing projects as well. A few uninterrupted hours of writing sure can go a long way!
This Summer, I'm Finally Getting Myself New Sunglasses.
I've worn prescription eyeglasses since I was sixteen, and one area that I always neglect are my sunglasses. Most of the time, I go five years or more before I replace my shades.
That all stops this summer, because with the help of DiscountGlasses.com, I'm finally getting myself new sunglasses.
Ordering sunglasses online was a bit intimidating, but with prices starting at $29, free prescription lenses and a lowest price guarantee, I just had to give them a try. Besides, DiscountGlasses.com's 365-day return policy makes ordering online no riskier than going to a store.
I found the perfect pair of sunglasses for me, complete with prescription lenses, and had them delivered right to my door in less than two weeks. Yes, from start to finish, I had my new shades in less than two weeks. DiscountGlasses.com's USA-based lab allows them to ship overnight, unlike most of the competition.
I'm glad I stopped putting off ordering new sunglasses. New sunglasses will mean I'll see my entire summer better this year!
This Summer, I'm Upgrading My Mountain Bike.
My oldest son and I have gotten into mountain biking together during the spring. This summer, I'm going to invest a little bit more into our experience by upgrading a few accessories on my mountain bike.
My short list of upgrades looks like this:
- A new bike helmet
- A new hand air pump
- A new CamelBak backpack with water reservoir
- A new 2-bike rack for my car
- A new tire repair kit
- A new first aid kit
There are quite a few trails just within a few miles of home that I'd love for us to try. These trails are a step up from the rides that we've done so far, and require more planning and better gear. This list will make sure our summer biking excursions are more enjoyable and safer.
This Summer, I'm Buying a New Lens for My Camera.
Summer is a time for travel, and for a Dadtographer like me, that means even more photography opportunities!
With a summer guy's trip and hopefully at least one family vacation coming, a new wide-angle landscape lens would be a prefect edition to my gear back to capture all those sweeping vistas I'll be seeing on my summer travels.
This Summer, I'm Designating Sundays as Phone-Free Days.
I'm definitely going to make it a point to re-connect with my family this summer, and for us, that means less screen time. Sundays will be phone-free days at our house, to make sure we spend quality time together doing something other than social media, texting and mobile games.
There will be plenty of time for those activities the other six days of the week.
This Summer, I'm Planning One Date Night Per Month.
Last, but not least, this summer will be the season of romance. Ha! Okay, but really, it's important for parents to carve time out for each other, and for my wife and I, that means going on dates together.
This summer, I'll make it a point to plan at least one date night per month - from dinner and drinks, to museums, comedy shows and theatre productions, we'll explore more of what Orlando has to offer, together.
