Toasted Restaurant (Lake Nona) Review

This is an honest, unbiased Toasted Restaurant review. This review is based on my personal experience at the Lake Nona location. I was not compensated in any way for this post.

If you’re not familiar with Orlando, Lake Nona is an up-and-coming neighborhood on the south-east side of town, very close to the Orlando International Airport (airport code MCO). The neighborhood is in a period of renaissance because of the huge “medical city” complex just a few exits away. A number of new restaurants have just opened or are opening in the area very soon.

Toasted Restaurant has been open for a few months, so we (my boys and I) decided it was time to give it a try. There’s a second Toasted Restaurant in Winter Park, FL as well, which I have yet to try. The Lake Nona location is the newer of the two locations. Here are the addresses for their two current locations:

Toasted Restaurant – Lake Nona
10783 Narcoossee Road
Orlando, FL 32832

Toasted Restaurant – Winter Park
1945 Aloma Avenue
Winter Park, FL 32789

As you can see from the map above, the Toasted Restaurant location in Lake Nona is close to the intersection of Narcoossee Rd and Moss Park Rd, in the heart the area. It’s a bit further north than where most of the current development is going on, near the intersection of Narcoossee Rd and Tavistock Lakes Blvd, so you’ll avoid some of the traffic being a bit further north.

If it’s not too hot or raining, I’d strongly encourage you to eat outside.

The store is tucked away just a bit on the end of a small shopping area, anchored on the opposite end by 310 Restaurants Lake Nona location. If you’re not looking for it, you may just miss it, so if you’re heading south on Narcoossee and you pass highway 417 and the railroad tracks then you’ve gone too far.

The restaurant and building are both brand new and the location itself is very nice. Inside is a bit small, with a counter right inside as you walk through the door. There’s approximately two dozen tables in the dining area with zero privacy. When the restaurant is full, it can be quite noisy inside. The saving grace is the ample exterior seating provided in front, on the side and toward the back of the restaurant. If it’s not too hot or raining, I’d strongly encourage you to eat outside.

How’s the Food and Menu at Toasted Lake Nona?

Despite being “just a sandwich shop”, Toasted really tries to offer something for just about everyone, including gluten free, vegan and allergy-conscious items. You can check out their full menu, here.

My boys and I kept it simple for our first visit. Here’s what we ordered:

  • The Big Cheese – Cheddar, Swiss, Muenster, Jack cheese, arugula
  • Braised Brisket (Sandwich) – Fontina, braised brisket, housemade BBQ sauce, sweet tea caramelized onions
  • Truffle Fries – Truffle oil & fresh rosemary
  • Toasted’s Mac and Cheese – Jarlsberg, sharp Cheddar, Gruyere

Here are a few photos of our order:

I had the Braised Brisket sandwich and was very satisfied. It definitely felt a bit indulgent eating it, with it’s buttery toasted bread, meat and cheese. I wouldn’t call this a health food by any means.

Everything was made to order, so it took a few minutes, but it was well worth the wait.

My oldest son tried The Big Cheese and he said it was great, but almost too cheesy. He probably should have ordered some of their tomato soup to dip it in next time.

My youngest had Toasted’s Mac and Cheese and said that it was almost as good as mommy’s home made. That means it was pretty darn good – he probably just didn’t want to hurt mommy’s feelings.

Overall, the food was very tasty, presented very well and freshly delivered to our table outside. Everything was made to order, so it took a few minutes, but it was well worth the wait. It’s a bit on the pricey side compared to some “fast food” just down the street, but it’s not unreasonable for the quality that you get.
