Chris Tomlin wrote a song “Good Good Father.” While I know he’s referring to God, I take that line to heart as a single dad. That song comes on when I need to hear those words the most. Being a single dad, I haven’t had a lot of time to catch up on this blog as I had hoped I could. I find my time doing other things.
It’s who you are, it’s who you are, it’s who you are
And I’m loved by you
It’s who I am, it’s who I am, it’s who I am
This is my hope that when my kids are grown, they can say this about me.
I love when I get the chance to be with them. My daughter loves to make silly faces with me while my son is very camera shy. He would rather spend time taking the pictures than being the subject. It’s very hard to believe that they will be 5 this year!
I knew that being a parent would have its challenges let alone being a single parent. It was sort of a hardship the past few weeks with my getting a new job and having different hours. It made trying to schedule when I saw the kids very difficult. But where there is a will, there is a way. I found out that if I drove into town and left before the major rush, I could make it in plenty of time to get my kids before their mom had to go to class. I was really excited about this because I love getting time with them.
I know that not every divorce can be as civil as mine has turned out to be. I praise God for that. I really do. For those single parents out there, you’re in my thoughts today as you face any situation. I know it’s not easy. But hopefully, you can find some time for yourself and hopefully enjoy those moments you have with your kid(s).
