The following is a 100% authentic, 100% real review. I was not provided a complimentary product or compensated in any way for this review.
Zoosk.com is doing everything it can to be with the technological times. Whereas many websites remain basic, Zoosk has been striving to be the dating website for the 21st century through its devotion to social media features and optimization for mobile app use. Can all of this make up for the spammy nature of their advertising, though? How does the site stack up against its competitors both in features and image? Let’s get into our Zoosk.com review, shall we?
The Money Aspect
Many features on Zoosk are free for all users. There is no charge to open an account, interact with other users who have already contacted you and take personality tests used to increase your odds of a successful match. A free account allows you to do most activities although it can cause problems for you if the person you want to connect with doesn’t contact you first.
A subscription is required to review the profiles of users who didn’t reach out to you first. Additionally it opens up the chat features and removes advertisements from your experience. Zoosk recommends this option for users who want to take their experience on the website more seriously than a basic account can offer. Although there are many perks to upgrading your account, it isn’t required to have an enjoyable experience on Zoosk. A six month subscription is $12.49 per month.
Profiles and Matches
Initiating the profile creation process is as easy as pressing the login via Facebook button. After accepting the terms, Zoosk prompts you to enter your basic demographic information and then you’re in. After that you are prompted to fill out a few paragraphs describing yourself, your ideal mate and the perfect first date manually. Next you have the option of listing your favorite movies, music, books, etc. Although there was an option to lift your lists from Facebook, that option failed to work despite multiple attempts.
Matches are determined by answering personality questions about yourself. These results are compared with the responses of other users and used to match you with people that have similar interests. Additionally you can also search for matches based on preferred criteria such as location, religion and income level.
Profiles are relatively spam-free thanks to a high level of moderation by Zoosk for all account changes. This practice helps user feel more confident that the people they are getting in contact with aren’t creating accounts merely for spamming. Although some accounts likely slip through the cracks, it’s clear that the majority of profiles that I viewed appear to be completely legitimate reflections of the users presented.
The website appears to be very stable aside from my inability to upload my Facebook preferences when prompted. The messaging system works well. All you need to do is go to the profile that you want to make contact with and send a message in the message box. Messages already sent back and forth appear in the lower part of the profile making it easy to keep track of your communications. There doesn’t appear to be a standard forum on Zoosk. The most social aspect is that there is a ratings system based on how others have rated your profile but the only way to make contact with others is via the one-on-one messaging system.
Overall the experience on Zoosk was enjoyable as I found the website easy to navigate. There were even prompts that helped new users know what to expect when exploring the different areas on Zoosk. It became quickly apparent that Zoosk aims to create an environment where users are able to feel comfortable seeking out potential dates without feeling frustrated by the technology.
Despite a minor glitch or two, Zoosk has gone above and beyond in crafting a dating website experience that users can expect to be headache free. However, its reputation in the online dating community is somewhat less than stellar. The honest opinion of this website is that on a scale of 1 (dreadfully horrible) to 5 (amazingly wonderful); Zoosk gets a 1.5 out of a possible 5 stars. While the functionality of the site is strong, there are other aspects that leave much to be desired.
